Hi! My name is Nikalee Rath. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I became a doula because: ...of my mother. Even as a child, I loved being around pregnant women. I loved rubbing blossoming bellies, fetching glasses of water, and generally doting. My mother let me paint her belly and took me to prenatal appointments with her when she was pregnant with my brothers. I found learning about fetal development fascinating. I first attended a birth at age nine, and was allowed to cut the umbilical cord. I was hooked! My mother was an awesome example. She did it all ( 26 hours), drug free, at home, and made it look easy. Pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period are such an amazing and unique time in a woman's life, it's always an honor and a privilege to be part of. My own birth experiences: two natural, unmedicated home-births, attended by midwives. Both times, I was fortunate enough to be accompanied by experienced, nurturing women - doulas, who helped me to have positive birth experiences, and reinforced my belief that every mother should have the same support I did. My work: My goal: to continue to provide women (and they're families), with the support and education that they need and deserve throughout their pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences, including women and families who may not be able to afford standard doula service fees.
